Some news from Malta:

European Under-19 Championship

Luca Brecel who had been impressive in the round-robin stage, failed to defend his title as he lost 2-4 to Jason Devaney from Ireland.

Line-up for the quarters (played tomorrow) is

Sam Craigie v Sean Conway
Anthony McGill v Tom Maxfield
Eden Sharav v Jak Jones
Nick Jennings v Jason Devaney

Let's remember the winner of this event gets a spot on the Main Tour.

European Team Championships

Men: teams still on course for the title are Wales 1, Wales 2, Scotland 2 and Germany. Wales is defending.

Masters: Wales, Ireland 1 and Belgium are in the semis. Malta 2 vs Finland is still in progress.

Ladies: Semis will be
Germany v Russia '2'
Ireland v France '2'

Sangsom 6-reds qualifiers:
Scott MacKenzie, James McBain, Jamie Jones and Sam Craigie qualify to represent EBSA in Thailand in the summer. For the record, Jimmy White is defending champion.

Can Sam Craigie follow Fred Davis and hold a title his brother had previously won.

Anthony McGill faces Jak Jones for a place on the main tour. It would be better if Jak won as Anthony is pretty much secured of a place thanks to his PIOS standing. He also was runner up two years ago to Stephen Craigie when the event was played at his home club.

Id imagine if Anthony wins that theyd then give a place to 9th on the PIOS list.

Then again Hearn may want to keep as many wildcards as he can, id suspect the first 3 will be given to Belgian wonderkid Brecel (Hearn will tweak the rules to allow him on), Reanne Evans the womens world champion and possibly Tian Pengfei after his exploits so far.

Id like to see Xiao Guodong get a chance too, however with the scrapping of the PIOS and opportunities for amateurs on the new tour, there may be no need to just dish out wildcards willy nilly as they players will have a better chance to earn things on merit anyway

If Zhang Anda beats Hendry then Xiao will survive. Jak Jones is 8th on the PIOS to and at 16 it would be good to see another youngster join.

I was keeping an eye on the Masters Mon. 4 of the lads that I've started playing with here in the Over 40's comps were over there, Joe Delaney, Eddie Ingle, Anthoney Bonner & Brendan Thomas. I have aspirations of playing in this comp next year all being well. Keep an eye out. ;)

I hear Darren Morgan is playing wonderfully well.
