David as in David and Goliath hence slingshot, and Lilley as in water lily - an aquatic plant.

Yeah, I was thinking of Billys, but Joe Castle would never have entered my memory banks, I was trying to work out how to make Billy Snaddon fit earlier, but nothing beyond Kid-Billy came to mind in that regard. You've convinced me of Joe Castle, even if it's wrong

Could it be English as in side? Side can mean a camp (like a faction). Kid can refer to a goat, goats sometimes where bells. So I'll go John Campbell

Of the three possible GOATs, Hendry, Davis and O'Sullivan, Ronnie is the baby, the kid. English to distinguish him from Hendry.
