Re: 2 Word Clue

For the first word, don’t think about synonyms or anything like that. It’s very much to do with the word itself.

Neal Foulds

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby Iranu

Not Neal Foulds.

I’d be interested to hear the reasoning behind some of these guesses.

I think once you get the right person on this one you’ll know straight away that you’ve got it.

But I can't think of any players who are known to pee like an 'orse. :chin:

The first word doesn’t involve peeing or ‘orses.

Re: 2 Word Clue

If you consider the characteristics of the first clue this is very easy.

Pelican is an anagram of: Pic(k) Neal
Foals are baby horses that presumably say neigh.

rofl

Big Bill maybe, he drank enough!

So we're looking for a player with an enormous beak :chin:

...

I suppose it could be Allison (or Mandy) Fisher, or perhaps Mick (Fisher-)Price. I don't see the neigh connection with any of those though.
I'll give it some thought.

I mean... you’re basically there and you’ve answered the first clue...

Re: 2 Word Clue

Alan McManus?

Angler
A Scot might say neigh rather than no.

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby Iranu

Not Alan McManus

Go back to your post that I quoted and complete it, basically.

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby chengdufan

Big Bill Werbeniuk

Deary me, I do feel like an idiot sometimes!

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby Iranu

Correct!

Big bills are of course a characteristic of pelicans, and Werbeniuk was from “Whinnie”peg in Canada.

Re: 2 Word Clue

An easier one:

Grinder Relatives

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby McManusFan

Cliff Wilson?

Cliff from Cliff Thorburn (the Grinder), and Wilson is a surname shared by a few players on the tour. None of the Wilson's are related though... worth a punt though.

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby Prop

Rob Milkins?

A mill is a grinder
And kin are relatives

Ooh, good thinking. Not Cliff though

Yes, Milkins it is!

Over to you Prop

Re: 2 Word Clue

This one should also be pretty straightforward:

XY operating.

Re: 2 Word Clue

Postby Iranu

Iulian Boiko?

XY chromosome = Boy

Operating: you would knock someone out/KO them before performing surgery on them

Good logic, but not right. You won’t land directly at a player by deciphering the clue. But once you do it should only take a pinch of general knowledge to crack it.

Re: 2 Word Clue

Terry Griffiths.

Not Terry Griffiths. I thought this one was quite easy :chin:

Ok, a big clue. Early 80s pop music knowledge will help.

Re: 2 Word Clue

I'll try Jackson Page

Re: 2 Word Clue

Neil Robertson.

Go on…

Re: 2 Word Clue

The original clue plus the music reference clearly pointed to Men At Work, whose biggest hit was Down Under. Neil Robertson is the 'Thunder From Down Under', and I believe has used the track for his walk-on music in the past. He is also from Melbourne, as was the band.
