Nope. Correct tournament though but wrong year and players. Robbo also hasn't won multiple world championships.

First edition of this tournament, this match featured a final between two rivals and legends of the game.

But only after 2 years, this now prestigious tournament wouldn't be held again for a few decades later.

Nope

Got to be the Champion of Champions. I have some footage of a final (I think the inaugural final) between Ray Reardon and Alex Higgins, 1978 or 79.

Reardon won 11-9

Re: Identify That Match!

Correct Ed!

The Champion of Champions tournament, which actually starts tomorrow, was first held in 1978, won by Ray Reardon 11-9 against Alex Higgins. It was held again in 1980, but would not be held again until 2013.

Your turn Ed!

Ranking Event final between two youngsters; for the victor, who’d lost in the final of the same tournament a year previously, it was a first triumph. Big things were expected yet he soon faded away from the game. The runner-up had little hype around him, and not much was expected in the way of future success, yet he went on to be one of the most decorated players of the next two decades…

The answer is correct :hatoff:

The score was 9-7 <ok>

David Gray had a 6-1 H2H over Selby, interestingly.

A major final between an older geezer, a former champion but who was seemingly on the way down and, a young punk who was well and truly on the way up having already landed a brace of ranking titles. The older geezer was in great form and made three centuries in a row!

That’s got to be Doug Mountjoy beating Stephen Hendry, Tennents UK 1988

Think the final score was 16-12, or thereabouts.

Great match, one of my faves

Two sides of the law clash in a Crucible 2nd round match; the righteous man trails most of the way against his nefarious opponent, but justice finally prevails in the third and final session.

Griffiths v Higgins, 1979 2nd round Worlds?

Re: Identify That Match!

Postby SnookerEd25

Incorrect. The good v evil thing is not literal; it is more to do with nicknames…

You said "two sides of the law".

Is Jow Swail, The Outlaw, involved?

Clue :

the victory didn’t do our hero much good; he got absolutely pasted in his quarter-final, beaten with a session to spare
