I don’t think he did on the official rankings - though he came close - but, as we all know, the ChengduRankings give a far more accurate assessment of a player’s form at any given point in time.

He was heading for his 40th birthday at this point as was Williams. You could say the lack of young players coming through saved them as it would have been to recover old form while being beat by players barely half their age.

Judd Trump made a 147 against Mark Selby in the quarter-finals. There is some partial and not particulary good footage of it here for those interested:

2015 Welsh Open - Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Welsh_Open_(snooker)

John Higgins had a emphatic return to form with a win in Cardiff. It must be said that on paper, his run to the title doesn't look the most challenging, but you can only play who comes in from of you. He did beat top 16 players Stephen Maguire and Liang Wenbo and compiled 6 century breaks in the tournament, including 3 130+ efforts.

Ben Woollaston was his opponent in the final, the Leicester man reaching that stage of a full ranking event for the only time in his career to date. Woollaston's high break in his 9-3 defeat was a meagre 59.

There were a number of upsets in the tournament.
Number 1, Mark Selby, lost to Luca Brecel.
Number 2, Neil Robertson, was beaten by Gary Wilson
Ding Junhui lost to Lee Walker in the opening round (Walker's first win in a ranking event for around three years).
And Ronnie O'Sullivan lost to Matthew Stevens, who has been inching towards dropping out of the top 64 of late.

QFs
Mark Williams (14) 5-1 Marco Fu (10)

In the 2015-16 season there will be 10 major ranking events and 7 PTCs (6 European and 1 Asian). This will be the final year that PTCs are held.

Yan Bingtao won the World Amateur Championship, but aged 15 is deemed too young to join the tour and his place is deferred to next season.
