It was actually Steve Davis that he lost to in the semi-final, rather than losing to himself (although that would have been an interesting match to watch)!

This list is never anything less than interesting even if it doesn't always make complete logical sense. I might make a list of top ten under & over achievers after we've got to the half way point. But one thing I am currently reflecting on is whether any of these players so far have actually made any money from playing pro snooker? Obviously I realise they all won prize money but would any of them actually have made a profit from the game once everything was totted up. My guess is no and if so then it's a sad indictment of our game that most of those who can count themselves amongst the top 200 of all time don't actually have much to show for it.

That would be excellent. I would love to see that :-)

A very interesting question. It's not something I have much knowledge about as I've never paid much attention to player income.
My guess would be that most of the players aged early 30s or below who have been covered and are still moving up the list are likely making a decent income. The Chinese players, Luca, Scott Donaldson and so on. Those who have been listed and retired, as well as those older current players may have needed to supplement their income. I don't know though and would be interested to hear from someone with more knowledge on this issue.

He had a serious argument with a moderator of the site & while I don't think he's been banned, it might be the straw that broke the camel's back as he's been brewing about moderation policy for a very long time.

I hope he returns one day, sooner rather than later, but the core problem will always be there. Most forums have this 'awkward zone' regarding how one is supposed to engage with moderators & Chen finds this site's awkward zone way too awkward.

Patsy Fagan is the highest ranked player to have been ranked for less than ten years (3650 days).

I aim to post two players per day from today to Monday, to catch up on the days I missed while I took a break from the island, one in the morning and one in the evening (my time). Patsy is the first morning one.

Welcome back.

I have an old snooker yearbook 1985-86 which shows Patsy Fagan's date of birth as 15th January 1951.

In addition to the Rothmans yearbooks, it is also born Dublin 15/1/51 in the CueSport Book of Professional Snooker. I’ve also checked a few tournament programmes from late 70’s, early 80’s and they concur.

Mark Love is a new one for me as well. I've read a few books about the history of snooker (and billiards) and Mark Love has not popped up in any of them.

If you haven't already read it, Black Farce and Cue Ball Wizards by Clive Everton is a really interesting book. One of my favourites.

By the way, welcome back, Chengdufan. It's great to see you posting again. <ok> :-D
