In terms of the travesty that is the official ranking system, my sense is that Zhang Anda is the hardest done by of all the players. In the rankings revisit, he has spent over four and a half years ranked inside the top 64, while officially his highest rank has been 65.
With the number of tougher draws this has presented him with in his career, his earning potential has suffered significantly.

Re: All-time ranking list

Postby chengdufan

Not to mention of course that just as he reached the age that a high proportion of players peak at, COVID hit and he had a baby. As all the professional snooker events were on the other side of the world from his home, he had little choice but to stay in China...

Zhang Anda one of many who have suffered the resetting of their ranking points to zero despite finishing inside the top 64 on the one-year ranking list. Scott Donaldson and Elliot Slessor, two who have overcome that WST inflicted handicap, deserve enormous credit because they've achieved their integration into the top 64 despite the system working against them - this being particularly so in the years prior to Covid when WST ran multiple ranking tournaments protecting the top 64.

Travesty. You're spot on.

Re: All-time ranking list

Remarkable similarities in Williams and Carrington's careers, despite Williams being 3 and a half years older. They both started when the PTCs arrived in 2010, and although their ranking paths have been different, 10+ years on they both find themselves ranked in the low 50s and next to each other on the all-time list. Makes me wonder what their head to head is like.

Ahhh yes I do remember Stuart Carrington reaching the Gibraltar Open semi final earlier this year.

Surprisingly, they've only played each other twice, both times in tour qualifiers way back in 2008, and of course it's 1-1 (Williams winning the first 4-2 and Carrington the second 4-0).

Their overall records are very similar, even down to matches played/won (Williams has won 245 from 465, Carrington 240 from 442) and total prizemoney (Williams £375,684, Carrington £374,427). Full head to head from CueTracker here.
