He was also very consistent for a long period, which scores him good points on the ten-year-system

Xiao Guodong is the highest ranked player on the all-time list who has not been in my top 16 (yet).

Current rank isn't up to date, apologies. I haven't had time to add in the scores from the Shoot Out yet.

I have decided only to post an update of changes to the top 100 from this point on.

Kyren Wilson has moved up 4 spots from 92 to 88. Otherwise there are no changes in rank for those ranked 88-100.

May I ask you to reconsider.

I guess Luca Brecel and Matthew Selt aren't going to break into the top 100 before May/June but nevertheless I really enjoy seeing the progress each player has made after you update following the completion of each ranking event.

In any case thanks for this thread which has been a fascinating read from the start, both the daily countdown and the comments that that countdown has inspired.

Sure. In fact, why don't I share the progress all the players who are actively gaining points have made? Coming up

Amazing Wilson - he was the Alex Higgins, Jimmy White or Ronnie O’Sullivan of the 1950’s, packing out the venues wherever he played. If only the professional game had been in better shape, the record books may read very differently. As it was, Cliff was pretty much forced into retirement for fifteen years when he should have been in his prime.

There are no players younger than Jack ranked above him. In fact, he is the highest-placed 90s born player.

There are 3 players born in 1991 who are ranked in the 80s. I thought it might be interesting to look at a comparison of their ranking timelines:

It really shows what a consistent improver Kyren is. Was the dip in Lisowski's trajectory from when he was in ill health? Is your ranking system more forgiving to that sort of career gap with points not coming off as fast if you don't play?

I don't know what happened with Lisowski. I thought he just wasn't very good in that part of his career. He certainly seems to have made quite a leap in the last few years. Others likely know a lot more about it than me.

As for the ranking system, players are awarded points for up to three consecutive missed events. Once they reach four missed in a row, they stop getting points. So yes, there's less of a drop off if you miss time due to ill health.

Re: All-time ranking list

Postby McManusFan

Looking into it a bit more, Lisowski's cancer affected his amateur career - which is why he turned pro relatively late. So the dip in his rankings was just a dip in form.
