Zhou Yuelong is due a change of luck

Postby gninnur karona

Seeded 17 missed out on the English Open and Scottish Open due WST introducing split first rounds and untimely close COVID contact coupled with WST inflexibility particularly with the schedule of his Scottish Open qualifier. Injustice magnified by subsequent absences of Mark Williams and Neil Robertson.

Missed out on the World Grand Prix by one place. A single win in either of the home nations events above would have lifted Zhou Yuelong into the top 32 on the one-year list.

Missed out on the Masters by one place in a year where all 16 qualifiers competed. No Judd Trump absent through COVID, no Ronnie O'Sullivan absent through choice.

He also couldn't enter the 2020 World Championship due to travel restrictions and as a result of the lost ranking points missed out on a Top 16 place for the 2021 tournament which he then failed to qualify for.

:goodpost:

He will be a bit frustrated by it all (who wouldn't be), but he's someone who tends to take things in his stride. He knows he will be back towards the top of the game soon.
He's been taking the enforced time off to enjoy himself and spend some of the big money he earned in the last couple of years. He seems pretty happy with his lot.

Maybe next season?

Zhou Yuelong ends this season losing in the final round of qualifying for the World Championship to Stephen Maguire. Tough draw for the number 25 seed. Unfortunate that Stephen Maguire had fallen to 40 in the rankings. Although having said that Stephen Maguire was ranked 39 of those cleared to compete. What might have been if WST had suspended Liang Wenbo before the draw.
