Knocking a red off the table on purpose...?

Postby D4P

Imagine a player leads by 34 with 35 remaining. If the player were to intentionally knock the last red off the table, his lead would shrink to 30 (because of the 4 foul points awarded to his opponent) but there would only be 27 points remaining. In other words, the player could go from 34 ahead with 35 remaining to 30 ahead with 27 remaining, simply by knocking the last red off the table.

Has anyone ever seen this happen? Is there anything to stop it from happening, other than just an "honor system"?

If the referee feels the player has done this on purpose, he has every right to have a word with him about unsporting conduct, and were he to do it again warn him.

Why not award the frame to the opponent immediately? He fouled on purpose

So what ? :|
Fouling on purpose is not against the rules.
Haven't you ever seen players finding themselves in a tough spot and tying up balls on purpose

This isn't pool. You'll never see that in a tv match

No.

The colours would be respotted, and thus still 27 points on the table.

Why not, are all the players complete idiots ?!
If that's what is required to win, I guarantee you plenty will do it.

Wow, either Parrot's aim was completely gone or he was the biggest idiot out there. <doh>
Pot the red with the black. You give away 7 points for fouling, but your opponent has no red to go for.

We can't rule that out as an option.

Yes we can.

Johnny exists.

The same principle applies where a player has feathered the cue ball and knowing a foul will be called he continues to play a shot which ruins the chances for opponent. An example could be where a player leading by 20 points is cueing to play the yellow with the six colours on their spots. If he walks away from the table immediately after he feathers the cue ball he will leave his opponent an easy clearance but if he thinks quickly he could just knock the yellow safe thus denying his opponent the chance to clear.

Johnny would've made a century there.
