Championship league Group 7 is underway and in a battle of Legends John Higgins beats Mark Williams 3-0 with a top Break of 81 and Ryan Day beats Marcus Campbell 3-0.

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Postby Wildey

John Higgins excellent start to Group 7 continued as he beat Mark King 3-0 with two runs of 60+ on the way.

Andrew Higginson made the first century of Group 7 a run of 104 in the second frame But it wasent enough to deny Peter Ebdon a 3-2 win closing the match with a break of 72 in the decider.

I don't think he is a million miles away. He had some good performances in Wales, but didn't bring it against Ronnie.

The tournaments in the lead up to the Worlds are very important to him.

Wow! What is wrong with williams? Anyone watched it? Looks like hes completely chucking it away and given up on snooker completely:

Higgins 3-0 Williams (45 his highest break)
Day 3-2 Williams (48 high break)
Campbell 3-0 Williams (38 high break)
Ebdon 3-0 Williams (28 high break)

So hes won 2 frames and only made 2x40+ breaks

Something must be wrong, not even players who are in form or winning lots of matches!

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Semis are Higgins v Higginson and Day v King.

Higgins hasn't lost a match and only dropped two frames. Must be a CL record.

Yeah, all of the previous Group winners, from 1 to 7, respectively:

1. Ricky Walden
2. Joe Perry
3. Judd Trump
4. Stephen Maguire
5. Shaun Murphy
6. Martin Gould
7. Ryan Day

All will be doing battle tomorrow and Thursday in the Winners Group for a place in the Champion of Champions event next season.

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Gouldy could become the first player ever to defend his CL title, though he'll have a very tough job with the opposition he's facing.

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Postby Wildey

Stephen Maguire leads the Final group having won 3 out of 4 matches played and Joe Perry is Lagging behind having Lost 3 out of 3.

Strange from John Higgins in Group 7 though ....He was going through his matches easily losing just 2 Frames in 6 matches beating Andrew Higginson 3-0 in the Group phase with Breaks of 137 and 139 but when it came to the semi final and Winning the group became immediate he collapsed with a top break of 38 in losing to Andrew Higginson 3-1.

that typifies where John Higgins is at in his career he stil can play great stuff but maintaining it is proving to be his downfall.

One of the rewards for winning this event tonight is a invitation to the Champion of Champions

Winner of Group 7 on Tuesday Ryan Day is out having lost 4 of his 6 matches and joining him is Joe Perry

Definitely in the Play offs are Stephen Maguire and Shaun Murphy.

With Judd Trump, Martin Gould and Ricky Walden fighting it out for 2 spots.

Current Matches are
Judd Trump 1-1 Shaun Murphy (if Judd wins hes made the play Offs)
Joe Perry 1-1 Martin Gould (if Martin wins hes made the play offs)

So Judd's and Martin's destiny is in their hands Ricky Walden has to rely on results going for him before his final match against Stephen Maguire.

CL semis are Murphy v Trump, Mags v Gould.

In terms of the CoC, probably most important for Gould to win here, as with the Ding, Ronnie and Robbo dominance, most likely that the other three could get invited due to rankings.

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Postby Andre147

Gouldy on course to win back to back CL titles, having just beaten Mags 3 nil in the semi with Mags only scoring 2 points in the match.

We all know it's a tin pot tourney but if wins back to back titles it's a pretty good achievment considering the opposition he has faced.

Re: Championship League Discussion !!

Gouldy v Trump then in the final for a place in the CoC and when the match finishes one of them will have won the CL 2 times.

Gouldy is defending champ, Trump won it in 2009.

Gould will face Judd in the final, so whatever happens, we are going to have a two time CL champ for the first time.

Well that was wonderful clearance Skull, some of the shots he pulled off there :hatoff:

Would like him to win the match, especially after that.

Looks like Judd takes it with another ton and qualified for the CoC.

Was doing a bit of maths earlier in the match and figured out that Judd's made from the CL than he did getting to the German Masters final (£30,800 to £29,167).
