Shanghai Masters Qualifying Discussion !!!

Tuesday 12th of August~Friday 15th of August at the Barnsley Metrodome

The Shanghai Masters was first held in 2007 and won by Welshman Dominic Dale.

Last year the tournament was won by China's own Ding Junhui and it started a run of 5 ranking tournament win in one season for Ding. But before the final stages in Shanghai there will be 112 layers trying to Qualify in Barnsley (102 Main tour players, 8 Q School top up players, Steve Davis and James Wattana)

In Round 1 players include Barry Pinches, Oliver Lines, Tian Pengfei, Kyren Wilson, Joe Swail, Michael Wasley, Lyu Haotian, Tony Drago, Robin Hull, Joel Walker, Scott Donaldson, Noppon Saengkham, Lu Ning, Sam Baird as well as non Tour players like Alex Pagulayan and Oliver Brown not to mention Holders of a Invitational tour card Steve Davis and James Wattana will be starting out on the road to shanghai.

And in Round 2 players includes Jack Lisowski, Cao Yupeng, Anthony McGill, Jimmy White, Nigel Bond, Ben Woollaston, Jamie Jones, Rod Lawler, Luca Brecel, Kurt Maflin, Dave Harold, Aditya Mehta, Yu De Lu, Anthony Hamilton and 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty starts their campaign.

In Round 3 Will be players from round 2 playing each other so that the 16 winners can go through in to Round 4 to play the Likes of Matthew Stevens, Liang Wenbo, Dominic Dale, Xiao Guodong, Alan McManus, Ryan Day, Mark Davis, Fergal O'Brien and Former World Champions Peter Ebdon and Mark Williams and try and get to Shanghai where Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Ding Junhui and World Champion Mark Selby will be there waiting for them.

I Think Pankaj has a lack of ambition at the top level of snooker.

He's been such a success at the level he was playing at (Billiards) that being a bit player for the last 2 years on the Main Tour was harder for him and instead of knuckling down and try and get better more successful his absence has the feel of a guy that's given up and is going back to picking up trophies at a lower level.

That's what I was thinking too

He's playing in this which coincides with the Shanghai quals

He will probably return some time, there isn't that much billiards to play, and he qualified for the Sangsom 6 red

apart from Advani, Liu Chuang is the only surprising non-entry
Pagulayan is there too, and has a good draw, he could win a few matches

Kyren Wilson is in danger of letting slip the great Work he did last season having not won a match in the previous 2 Main ranking event this season now hes 2-1 down to Wells in the 3rd.
