At the same time, it's fairly shitty venue. And the hotels aren't that convenient.

Would you need a hotel? Can't you get a train to Farringdon and then the Elizabeth line?
I agree it's not a nice venue. I always have trouble with food there, and it's a lonely 30 min walk to Brentwood station after the last bus has departed (around 7pm).
