Wednesday 4th ~ Friday 6th of March at the Blackpool Tower Circus

It may have gone unnoticed by most, namely because yesterday the Indian Open qualifiers were on as well as the Championship League Winner's Group Final, but yesterday evening we also saw the random draw for the 2015 Shoot-Out live on Andy Goldstein's Sports Bar Show on TalkSport, with 7 time World Champion Stephen Hendry and Jason Cundy doing the honours.

The order of play will no doubt change, but in the meantime this was how the names were drawn out:

Rory McLeod v Nigel Bond
Joe Swail v Barry Hawkins
Alan McManus v Anthony Hamilton
Dechawat Poomjaeng v Jimmy White
Ken Doherty v Alfie Burden
Mark Joyce v Jamie Jones
Stephen Maguire v Sam Baird
Ali Carter v Mark King
Martin Gould v David Gilbert
Graeme Dott v Jimmy Robertson
Rod Lawler v Gerard Greene
John Higgins v Mark Williams
Fraser Patrick v Mark Davis
Luca Brecel v Dominic Dale
Joe Perry v Mike Dunn
Stuart Bingham v Fergal O’Brien
Andrew Higginson v Ricky Walden
Marcus Campbell v Chris Wakelin
Aditya Mehta v Noppon Saengkham
Matt Selt v Judd Trump
Kyren Wlson v Kurt Maflin
David Morris v Matthew Stevens
Peter Ebdon v Gary Wilson
Dave Harold v Ronnie O’Sullivan
Mark Selby v Anthony McGill
Xiao Guodong v Peter Lines
Shaun Murphy v Jamie Burnett
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh v Mark Allen

Also, Hendry said this on TalkSport:

"I'm definitely not playing in the Worlds this year. But I will play in a tournament again in the future."

Re: Shoot-Out

So maybe Hendry will play in a few events starting from next season. Obviously, he feels his game is not sharp enough and abit too rusty to come back straightaway. Or it could be that he wants to tie up a few loose ends business wise before focusing 100% on his snooker.

Either way, he said that he will definitely be seen playing pro snooker again.

Someone posts a bit of Hendry news and I'm not allowed to comment on it?

I'm surprised you can get close enough to your computer to post, I've never seen anybody get such a boner every time Hendry is mentioned. <laugh>

Ronnie's playing! v. surprised.

Re Hendry, I've watched a lot of his chinese 8 ball matches on youtube, and he seems to lose a lot! He's prob not even in the top 16 in the world for that discipline. No criticism here, I love the King, just an observation. I just don't have much faith in his snooker comeback. He lost to Earl Strickland in January, admittedly a US pool legend, but he'd only started playing the chinese 8 ball table about a week before!

Aren't there 'specialist' chat rooms for this kind of chat?

You can always bring this thread to the junkyard, if you please.

Cant see him ever playing again.

he said he wont make up the numbers for a publicity stunt if he feels he cant perform to a acceptable standard he wont play.

i think that statement says it all.

He will never reach what is acceptable to him so he will never play again.

Yes!! This is on now. Bring it on!

Brecel vs Dale, Selt vs Trump, Higgins vs Williams and Poomjaeng vs Jimmy White looks already a very tasty! This is a great, an entertaining format this one. I like all these exciting tournament formats and set-ups, as well as some cracking headlines regarding snooker-journalism. I remember when an on-song O´Sullivan once dispatched Ryan Day in 60 minutes in a best of 9 frames match, and was it a sportinglife.com´s headline was "Day lasts an hour" rofl rofl rofl rofl

This shouldn't even be classed as snooker.

Why don't they have a tournament where the six colours are placed on the cushions and six players draw lots to see which colour they have, and the player whose colour is left on the table wins?

That has about the same amount of relevance.

This event makes the Championship League look like The World Championship.

Kudos to Neil Robertson for sticking 2 fingers up to this garbage.

Re: BetWay Snooker Shoot-Out

Postby Andre147

Well Ding also didn't enter, and Ronnie for instance also stuck 2 fingers up to this event last year and the year before that.

Anyway, it's just a bit of fun really, and there's absolutely no harm in having an event like this per season, it makes more sense than the silly CL nowadays that's for sure. It makes for a relaxed atmosphere and players lower down the rankings can earn decent money and have TV time, and maybe win this event.

Besides, we could have a slower player winning it again, Bond did it, I wouldn't be surprised if a player like O'Brien or Lawler went on to win it too.

Luca winning this would be very nice though.

On a side note, World Snooker is making a competition to see who first guesses "what year the photo was taken, and you could WIN a PAIR of ALL-DAY tickets for the Betway Snooker Shoot Out on a day of your choice! (Including the FINAL!) T&C's attached."

Image

My bet is 1950 Walter Donaldson v Fred Davis - 51 frames to 46

Re: BetWay Snooker Shoot-Out

Postby PoolBoy

Just realised the first prize for this event is £32,000! For winning 6 frames with a total table-time of under an hour! That equates to over £5,000 per frame.
The next 'ranker' requires a week in India, winning 6 competitive rounds - for 'just' £50,000!
Only 31 players have made more than £32k over the entire season! (although this tournament's money doesn't count towards the rankings)

Enjoyable day, nice to see Luca, Shaun, Hawkins, Dotty, MJW and of course Jimmy going through.

Poom always looks like a bit of a clown with some of his shots and his general demeanor around the table <laugh>

Watching this for the first time and while the format is interesting, the crowd participation is awful. I find it extremely distracting as a viewer and considering the time constraints you'd think quiet from the audience would be even more important than normal for the players.

Dont think the players gives a stuff TBH.

its a day out by the sea a bit of candyfloss, Blackpool Rock, Harry Ramsden's Fish and chips and buck about on a snooker table with Mates.

Jimmy White's first "match" win in 2015.

Thats if you call this a match.
