Re: Q School 1 !!!

Just out of curiosity does anyone know roughly how many players are in this who are based at the northern snooker centre in Leeds ?

A few bruising matches already.

Because of the format, anyone who loses in this round has almost no chance of getting the Order of Merit places. The seeding helps, but there are a couple of surprising clashes this early.

Isaenko 1-0 up
Filips Kalnins 1-0 down
Yu Kiu Chang 2-0 up on former pro Sean O'Sullivan
Brian Cini 2-0 up

Dean Reynolds set to start against Ivan Kakovskii from Russia. Can Reynolds emulate Tony Knowles and roll back the years?

To answer yesterday's question. Josh Mulholland does have the drive. As he wins his first match to set up a tie with recently relegated Riley Parsons.

Re: Q School 1 !!!

Decent win there for Germany's Umut Dikme, he looks like Jamie Clarke with a suntan , Rebecca Kenna looked very solid against Brandon Sargeant in the crucible qualifiers, Dikme's up against Antoni Kowalski tomorrow at 1630 gmt.

Bad news for O'Sullivan fans as Yu Kiu Chang beats Sean 4-2 to set up a match with former pro Paul Davies.

Be an even more remarkable feat given that he had a stroke twelve years ago which, for a while left him with no use in his left arm. As a left-handed player he virtually had to learn how to cue all over again.

Re: Q School 1 !!!

Kakovskii beats Dean Reynolds 4-1
Julian Leclercq beats Mark Lloyd 4-1
Hans Blanckaert beats Faizaan Mohammed 4-0

All finish before the last of the 9am starts.

Leclercq faces James Cahill
Kakovskii faces Simon Blackwell
Blanckaert faces Billy Joe Castle

Looks like there may be some pull outs or quarantining issues for the poles as the WST schedule is showing that Baranowski and and Kowalski won't be playing in at least event 1. Byes into the 3rd round for Umut Dikme and Simon Bedford and an extra 4 frames for both for the order of merit.

The Poles haven't been w/o'd in the other draws so hopefully will be able to compete but will likely have to win an event to qualify as they won't get through on the order of merit.

2nd Latvian victor of the day as Maris Volajs wins the titanic struggle 4-3 against Stephen Baillie. He plays Sohail Vahedi next.

Hendry Fan will be delighted that 44 yr old scot Evan Munro wins to set up a tie with Hayden Pinhey. Murno beat Wienold to mean that Germany's hopes rest with Umut Dikme in event 1.

Rodion Judin can't make it a 3rd Latvian win of the day, losing a decider to Patrick Whelan who now faces Sanderson Lam.

Good to see Sanderson having a go. I didn’t see his name in the list of entries initially but good luck to him <ok>

It's a sad to see the grass roots level in such a sorry state in the UK, with clubs closing down all over the place. The lack of quality facilities available is a major problem if you happen to be a teenager looking to make a career in the game.

Nevertheless, nice to see plenty of hopefuls emerging from European counties and other parts of the world which you wouldn't normally associate with snooker (France, Russia, Latvia, Denmark). Adds a nice bit of international flavour to events.

14 yr old Liam Davies wins in a decider and now faces Daniel Womersley who came close to qualifying for the tour via q school a couple of years back if I remember rightly.
