Pan American Snooker Championship 2023

The start of the 2024-25 season is probably less than 11 months away. As things stand around 30 players will line up for 2024-25 holding freshly distributed 2-year tour cards.

Towards the end of October the Pan American Billiards and Snooker Association will hold their championship, the event to decide which cueist will follow in the footsteps of Victor 'Vitinho' Sarkis and Ahmed Aly-Elsayed, at the Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club. Of note that the PABSA is limiting entry to 36 participants from across the Americas.

A couple of conditions of contest might arouse debate. The first concerning limiting the number of snookers required, the second effectively modifying the foul and a miss rule.

40-player entry list (4 above the original maximum).

Unsurprisingly mainly Brazilian. Disappointing that there are no entries from elsewhere in South America. Non-Brazilian entries limited to USA, Canada and Mexico albeit with one surprise - Poland's Daniel Holoyda making practical use of dual Polish-American citizenship.

Looks like he is not flying in practice.

Quarter-final defeats for Itaro Santos and Igor Figueiredo.

Daniel Holoyda, the only non-Brazilian survivor, plays Fabinho. whilst Rafinha plays Jonas Luz. Fabinho has only dropped one frame to date, that against Igor Figueiredo. Jonas Luz the only one of the four to have lost a group match.

Both semi-finals and the final later today.

Daniel Holoyda played in the Championship League beginning season winning one frame against Dylan Emery, 46 points against Ken Doherty, and 8 points against Mark Williams.

Should Rory McLeod, who finished 12 places ahead of Daniel Holoyda on the 2023 QSchool Order of Merit, consider the Pan American as a viable route to returning to the main tour?

Surprisingly, he's a player I don't know much about.

Probably doesn't bode well for his chances on tour that the person he lost to on the group stage was Itaro Santos.
