That's not that bad actually.

Though there is Ben Hancorn who's 35 and never been a pro, played in very few Challenge Tour and PIOS events and barely won a match there. Had a win against Matt Selt once and beat Ben Judge in the World Amateur. And now he beats Jackson Page and Joel Walker.

Come on Pinhey!!

I think the last 16 are almost guaranteed of at least a Challenge Tour place.

Yeah, but it would be nice to see new faces, not guys who have recently failed on the tour.

Haydon Pinhey is a newbie that has a chance though.

Yeah, you'd need 22-23 frames to get in. According to the snooker stat god Nick007j on twitter "I ran some simplified simulations, ~50% for 21 to be a threshold, ~40% for 22." Some players might not take the tour place if they can't afford to play in all events, so it could be lower.

Speed does not equal entertainment

Nor does Poomjaeng.

Didn't know Wildey was a Poomjaeng fan :-D

Sounds like it. Who can resist a hyperactive buffoon scratching his head and clapping his own shots.

im not however people tend to think speed is entertaining and sometimes it is but its also one dimensional snookers strength is it takes all sorts and whats entertaining to some is not to others thats life.

Yea he’s from Plymouth. Played against him a lot about 10 years ago when he was just a kid.

I don’t think he’d set the world alight but would be great to see him on there.

Hammad Miah playing at 16 secs a shot in the first 3 frames. 5 seconds above his average for the season.

Re: Q-School 2018

A big thing is made of "The Class of 92", but why did they all come through at the same time and then be nothing like it since? And no evidence that it will change anytime soon.

If you go back to 1992, the format didn't really suit players coming through, with players having to win 12-13 matches in some cases just to qualify for TV stages for a newbie.

Is it because the standard is far higher now and more in depth? Is it because players won't get a few cheap wins (and therefore confidence) and are now playing the top players in round 1?

It was funny the first time but his clown act grew old fast for me.

It’s also bordering on gamesmanship.

If he is back on tour he’ll be in trouble with his pace of play. 35 seconds at the moment.

Re: Q-School 2018

Luke Simmonds looks like he’s going to win :(

Re: Q-School 2018

Postby Deewee

First match to get on tour has started, Simmonds-Miah. At least Miah has a really erotic cue action

Re: Q-School 2018

Postby SteveJJ

First effective final started

Hammad Miah v Luke Simmonds.

Assuming Luke Simmonds is the one and the same former world u-21 champ from 1998? Now 38. Has had two seasons on the tour in 2001/2002 and 2003/2004 seasons. Highest rank of 94.

Postby SteveJJ

4th effective final

Jordan Brown v Jak Jones

Jordan Brown, 30, from Northern Ireland, looking for his 2nd and 3rd seasons on tour after a solitary season on tour in the 2009/10 season. Twice Northern Irish Champion. Highest ranking of 90 during that 1 season on tour.

Jak Jones, 24, from Wales, looking for his 6th and 7th seasons on tour. Has a highest ranking of 77 (last year). Has reached two ranking last 16's (one of them being in the shootout).

Re: Q-School 2018

Postby aimlesswandeer

All four winners could be guys that dropped off tour last season. If that’s the case then well done to them but it’s pretty underwhelming.

Re: Q-School 2018

Postby aimlesswandeer

Craigie virtually assured of beating plodding Poom. I suppose when you’re applauding every shot it will take you about 35 seconds per shot.

At least it's 3 players in their 20's (only just with Baird), potentially still developing.

Not at all surprised really that it's current pros getting back on (especially in 1st Q School) as they've spent a lot of time playing matches against Top 64 players and learning how to fight for every frame.

Now that there’s going to be a Challenge Tour next season hopefully a Development Tour will follow to create a better environment for young players preparing for a tilt at the Main Tour.

Q2 I reckon the finals will be

Brown vs Cahill
Thor vs Duffy
Lilley vs Page
Xintong vs Poom
