The end 2021-22 ranking system scandal

Postby gninnur karona

That the current ranking system is less than optimal is illustrated by the elimination from the tour end 2021-22 of five players who demonstrably had consistently performed better than a number of those who are plying their trade this season. My opinion or the facts?

A comparison covering the nine seasons 2013-14 to 2021-22 between five players who lost their professional status end 2021-22 (Group A) and five professional players on tour 2022-23 (Group B).

Group A: Michael Holt, Kurt Maflin, Andrew Higginson, Martin O'Donnell and Akani Songsermsawad
Group B: Gerard Greene, Alfie Burden, Rod Lawler, Peter Lines and Barry Pinches

Michael Holt with the sole exception of Rod Lawler 2014-15, in every season earned more than each individual player in Group B. (earned more than Group B players last 9 seasons 37/38)
Kurt Maflin earned more than: Barry Pinches in every season; Gerard Greene in seven seasons of nine; the other players in Group B in eight seasons of nine. (33/38)
Andrew Higginson earned less than Gerard Greene 2013-14, Rod Lawler 2014-15, and Peter Lines 2013-14 and 2021-22. (34/38)
Martin O'Donnell struggled early years. Earned more than all players in Group B every season from 2017-18. (earned more than Group B players last 5 seasons 21/21)
Akani Songsermsawad. Joined tour 2015-16 but played only one match. Earned more than each individual player in Group B every season from 2016-17. (earned more than Group B players last 6 seasons 23/23)

Notes:
Akani Songsermsawad not on tour 2013-14 and 2014-15
Alfie Burden not on tour 2020-21
Barry Pinches not on tour 2016-17 to 2018-19
Gerard Greene not on tour 2016-17
Martin O'Donnell not on tour 2014-15
Peter Lines not on tour 2016-17
Rod Lawler not on tour 2021-22
