292 Players entered the Paul Hunter Classic this year including Defending and World Champion Mark Selby.

Its almost 11 years since Paul Hunter died tragically young doesent feel that long ago when he was thrilling crowds with his dazzling pay.

He never got the chance to fulfil his potential, Will the 2017 Paul Hunter Classic be the catalyst for a young player to come along and full-fill their potential?

Interesting if someone with a good safety-playing can win this one. Like Luca Brecel in China.

I actually understood what you said.

Good to see Syria's Omar Alkojah in this, reached the final of the Asian championship in 2013 but hasn't played in the amateur events the last few years. Shame he got a tough draw and lost 4-1 to Andy Hicks.

Oh yeah, and Tony Drago :D

Reanne and Heikki Niva were in imperious form. HN scored a two 4-0 wins. Reanne first out-toughed Sari Soner (!) rofl rofl 4-3, before finding the form.

Nice to see some results from those two players also. Because I know they can both play. Just difficult to judge who gets the runs and runs of the balls. Obviously fancing the job and having a tactical game also always helps.

Jackson Page into the last amateur round without playing a shot. He's the beneficiary of three walkovers so far.

Has anybody ever won a tournament without playing a match?

A narrow 4-3 loss to Jamie Clarke in the last amateur round. The young Maltese Brian Cini did get through though, as did Kacper Filipiak beating Jackson Page. Experienced Englishmen Barry Pinches, Andy Hicks and Jamie Cope also through all have winnable matches in the last 128. A few younger players from England also through.

Also saw that Omar Alkojah seems to be based in Germany now and tops their national rankings. Might be Germany's star player?

Ignore that - forgot Selby was in it.

Reanne. :hatoff:

A very likely tactically astute playing. Just makes you think what are all these players thinking if having no answer at all if someone can and play tactically as it should be played.

Judd Trump and Ronnie O´Sullivan are the two players who are trying to break-build and to break-build their ways through. With a maximum efforts always when just seeing an oppurtunity to make a one. Perhaps they are just having a large fan-base amongs the professional players. But they, Judd and Ronnie, I feel, are there to stay.

And then we are having a sensible players like Fergal O`Brien and Peter Ebdon. Who sees the whole thing as a profession and an opportunity to make a good profit and living without hurting anyone´s feelings.

There´s a fine line between the insanity, where lies Judd and Ronnie, and the sense, where lies Fergal and Peter.

And then there´s the tactical brains also. And the rest of the players sailing between those three things.
