It's a good point.

I wonder if the ShootOut demands skills that are vital in the qualifiers?

Ok the countdown is well underway with just over 2 days and 1 hour to go.before Mark Williams walks out to the crucible crowd as defending champion something he has experianced before but not since 2004 back then his 1st match was against Dominic Dale he beat Dominic 10-7 but then lost 13-11 to Joe Perry.

Joe Perry could potentially play him this year in the first round when the draw is done in about 2 and a quarter hours.

from 2004 only 7 players survive

Mark Williams
Ronnie O'Sullivan
John Higgins
Joe Perry
Graeme Dott
Ali Carter
Stephen Maguire

Shaun Murphy who was to win it the following year lost 10-7 to Stuart Pettman in the last 64

That was ridiculous last year. How difficult can it be to get pulling balls out of a hat right?

We should have a Prediction Contest on how they'll bottom it up this year.

My guess is that somebody loses the bag of balls at the last minute, and it takes them three hours to find it.

Extreamly. You might get a cut from a thread or your hand will disapear and be replaced by a Rabbit.

Don't know why you'd even bother with a hat and balls these days. Could just do it in a spreadsheet.

I think it's just for television. (Or internet streaming in this case.)

Pulling balls out of a bag is more dramatic to watch than some guy going; "Right I've filled the names into Excel, now I'm going to randomise them...."

Besides, if you can see them physically draw the names, it makes it seem more legitimate. And not just picking matches they think will be good.

It’s more fun with a hat. The best is the masters where you have the crowd reacting to the matches.

They’ll forget to put the numbers on the balls.

Surely they don't make new balls for every draw?
