used to be best of nines.
multi session matches have always been the exception rather then the norm in snooker as far back as i can remember.

That's part of how they squeeze an entire event into a single week while playing a one table format the entire time. Longer matches would probably require more days or more tables, which is not what this event is about...

Yeah, I get the impression that the Masters is intended to be more of a "social event" (for celebrities, upper class, etc.) than other snooker tournaments. Playing in the morning wouldn't really fit with the aura that the event seems to want to create...
