Welcome to the first Prediction Contest of the 2017/18 Snooker Season.
The TD for this Prediction Contest is GCJDavid. I'm just posting this opening thread in the prediction forum
______________________________________________________________________________
Welcome to the 2017 Hong Kong Masters Prediction Contest. The Hong Kong Masters is a premier invitational event with only the top 8 players taking part. Ding Junhui has withdrawn to give English star Ronnie O’Sullivan a place, the only player not in the elite top 8. This tournament will be best of 9 frames for the first round, and best of 11 frames for the semifinals and finals.
Correct Result
Quarterfinals: 5 points
Semifinals and finals: 7 points
Correct Scoreline Bonus
Quarterfinals: 4 points
Semifinals and finals: 6 points
Pick two players to win the tournament:
You will receive 8 points if they win the tournament and 4 points if they are runners-up.
Maximum Bonus (Optional)
Pick a player to make a maximum break (147 with 15 blacks and reds or 155 with 16 blacks and reds) and you will receive a 16 point bonus. Pick as many players as you like and you will receive 16 points for each one that makes a maximum. However you will lose 12 points for each pick that fails to make a maximum. If your pick makes more than one maximum break you receive 16 points for each maximum made. This section is optional; not everyone has to predict a maximum.
Tiebreaker: how many centuries will be made during the entire course of the tournament?
Tiebreaker 2: how many 50+ breaks will the three non-English players make?
Further rules
- Once a prediction has been submitted you may not change them.
- An updated table will be provided at the end of each days play.
Each match will have its own separate deadline so you may predict individually or all at once, it's up to you.
Good luck to all entrants!

Apologies.
The delay was caused by PLTheRef not able to respond on time and me only thinking about the idea on Monday. Nevertheless I have to be thankful that I get to run this altogether.
In addition, I realised that the tournament started today and I missed the first match, so I will not be predicting, but I still have to run it for the three of you. The timing of the matches also are changed: I realised that Britain is running on Daylight Saving, so you have to predict the match before 7 am for the afternoon sessions.

Thanks for running the comp.
Even though I got the correct score on the first match(!), I would be happy if this were discounted if it allows others to enter - maybe give all late entrants the correct score for the Fu-Hawkins match.
I guess that is just the sort of charitable, fair-minded and helpful person I am.

A very tough prediction competition requiring high degrees of skill and guile.

To stop people editing their predictions a) to match another player and nurse a lead or b) change their predictions so that they match the outcomes of a tournament so far.
Presuming that it might be for similar reasons why I'm the only person able to post threads in here (given I was asked to set this thread up)

I win the prediction contest. However I have to say that for long format contests, I tend to bottle my lead.
A total of nine centuries were made during this event, making SteveJJ the closest prediction for centuries.
Thank your for your participation!
