The Home Nations events being named after former players always seemed tacky to me somehow. An unnecessary gimmick. Steve Davis has never played for this trophy.

Yes I did!!!! Really pleased, John could have easily won that if not for one ball.

I wanted Robbo to win obviously but damn felt sorry there for Higgins when he said I've not got it at this level. The last two finals must have been heartbreaking for him.

As for Higgins. He just bottled back to back finals.
Yeah same feelings here.

Yeah, but that's sport I suppose. Ronnie lost 5 last season, two of them were close.ones.

Yeah sad, I’m sure he’ll win something else, he’s still a brilliant player, guess it will depend on who he faces in a final.

Yeah, especially when you know it’s not true. It was only what, 7 months ago that he destroyed an entire field of elite players.

Great to see Neil winning again, cleaned up nicely after that poor position by Higgins. John shouldn’t be too hard on himself, I’m sure he’ll play some well again consistently over many tournaments

It's fine margins, both Ronnie and Higgins can still play at the very top level but in recent finals they haven't converted them into wins, even though Higgins won the PC.
As they get older, some of that killer instinct is harder to get in the tense moments, and that's what holding them back I believe.
But I think both of them will win titles this season.

Yeah Ronnie just said that. When you get older you just lose that extra bit and that makes all the difference at this level. Robbo is still in his pomp while Higgins is slightly past it.

Cheers mate, Robbo did the hard work, I was just enjoying it (well the last frame) from my sofa with some cue wine! Missus is asleep so I can enjoy the F1 on C4 now in peace :)

losing those world finals are probably keeping him motivated. Players champs is good but it's still not one of the big ones. With Higgins it feels like he wants to prove more, while Ronnie and MJW accept the forms there or isn't

nah. To lose 3 WCs final in a row really destroyed him mentally. He has now lost 6 of the last 7 finals he played. Maybe he would have lost the PC final as well if he didnt face an oldie in Ronnie.

doesnt matter how good you are, just like winning becomes a habit, losing does as well. And Higgins just lost too many finals over the last few years and its clearly in his head now.
He had 2 or 3 good chances or so to kill off the match, in the decider the balls were just perfect. But never had the cue ball under control and was feeling it big time out there. But Higgins looked quite edgy prior to that as well and missed a lot of balls and made pos errors throughout the match. Its just that Robbo went Pythagoras mode and almost messed it up. He was way ahead in all of the stats and the better player.

But he can also turn it around. Everybody was saying that he was finished a few years ago when he was playing a lot worse than he is now. Barely reaching Quarter Finals.
Mark Williams lost a load of finals a few years back, and people were panicking then.
Yes, losing can get inside your head but it can also be a monkey you get off your back.
I mean, he did just win a tournament earlier this year. The trick is to keep plugging away.

The pink Robbo potted in the frame before the decider is kinda very similar to the brown he potted against Judd in the UK final if you remember. Had to get it or he loses the match. Very tricky middle pocket pot. The pink was tougher because the white was closer to the cushion.

Yes, I thought that at the time. Probably gave him some self-belief that he could win.
