might be because of his dominant eye, if it helps his sighting. or maybe he just emulated some leftie when he first started playing and it stuck.

trump and allen are the same aren't they, i think?

Hendry said some intrestin points. He said,Neil,Judd n Ronnie don,t mix, talk, have a laugh much with the other players backstage, thats how it should be.

He also said, you don,t really see the other very top players mixing, socialising much with the other players, sometimes after the match,a lot of players,ll talk to each other and say eg,how unlucky they were, how bad the table played, that they did,nt get the run o the balls etc,he said,it influences you,you start seeing, sayin the same things,it brings you into that mentality, they should,nt get into converstations like that, don,t get too pally!.

And Angles said, there was a guy who once said to him, you,ve gotta be really single minded n not get too pally with other players, seperate yourself from the pack,it,s serious buisness playin in tournaments.

Take care all!. :peace:

That would be sad, but you may be right if he doesn’t sort out the mental side of playing at the Crucible.

Robbo not being a multiple world champion is a travesty IMO.

The counter example to that would be someone like Mark Williams I guess. But he's a pretty unique chap.

Hendry has always been incredulous at modern players mixing, he never did that, he’s probably right, really top guys don’t do it and see the results.
Take care HF and see you soon! Good to have another Team Robbo member :)

It is definitely a mentality thing. If you are always believe the balls are conspiring against you then every time you get a poir run of the ball it becomes a big thing in your head.

Hendry said if you play a poor positional shot you should just think to yourself that you're coming to the table after your opponent has just played a poor safety shot.

These guys are rivals to your ranking points, prize money, etc. Why are you pally with them? It just gives the impression that the commentators, players, refs, etc ate all just part of an old boys club.

Ignore them, hate them in your mind, concentrate on beating them on the match table.

I think that approach works for some people but I don't think it's a one size fits all thing. Take someone like Zhao Xintong, he's seems relaxed, and friendly with his fellow Chinese players, and he's piling on the silverware this year.

I also wonder if the cultural shift in snooker to be more pally with your fellow professionals has lead to people having longer careers. Can you imagine keeping up that cold unfriendly attitude from your 20s until you're 50? I think it would depress a lot of players, and that's not going to lead to a good performance.

Yes good point. I do think think it is a good attirude to have when you're young, on the rise and trying to topple the big boys. I suspect priorities change as you become one of the established elite.

Although snooker is not just about tournaments i guess, there are media commitments, exhibitions, sponsorship commitments, ambassador roles, community work, etc which allow you to be less formal.

It is also rare for players to have genuine 'needle' with each other, at least in public, they are by and large gracious in defeat most of the time.

But i also dont think an impression that they spend their spare time socialising with each other, the commentators, etc outside of "work" leaves a good impression. The old DT "he's the nicest fella you could ever meet" type thing which you'd only know if you socialised together.
