Good news stories from round one include the first ever wins on tour as professionals for Victor Sarkis and Reanne Evans whilst, although the first round proved a graveyard for many of the top players, there were some confident performances from some of those with decent past history in this event - Mark Williams, Zhou Yuelong, Xiao Guodong, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Michael Holt and Michael Georgiou - and Noppon Saengkham also impressed. Jack Lisowski snatched victory from the jaws of defeat - could that be a sign that his ranking title drought could be about to end? Good luck to everyone. A personal wish? That at least one of the finalists is an under 30-year-old for which this event serves as an early stepping stone in an ultimately successful career.

Today the survivors will attempt to reach the last 32. Who will hold their nerve on Judgement Day?

Its funny how they pick these positive news from what is deemed the worst snooker event of the season.

But it is what it is.

The saddest thing is that for many professionals there is no more ranking event snooker scheduled before the World Championships.

Incredible frame between Fan and Mertens.

Shame Ben didn’t win but that was quality from start to finish.
