Gotta say.......I thought the format was a pointless gimmick. But it has genuinely made this tournament different. It may be a straight knock out with the first two rounds in one day.......but it feels unique.

It's a Masters-lite, but considering the Masters is the second best tournament on the calendar, it's still better than most tourneys.

I think the group finals mean that the form players of the form players face each other every day.

As long as he's not facing a certain player from Leicester...

<ok> Yeah, it's not like that Ronnie has beaten this guy from Leicester more than this guy from Leicester has beaten him and that he made a maximum against this guy from Leicester in an UK semi final (decider). It's funny that people want to suggest that Selby is a big bogey opponent. He surely isn't , he is definitely not the favourite opponent but that's it. Ronnie had at least two wins over Selby by fighting (Masters 2009, UK 2007).

Usually I always respect your comments and opinion but this is senseless here, sry.

I think Ronnie's bottled more deciders against Mark than vice versa. I always fancy Mark in a decider against Ronnie. Just opinions though.

I like Ding but I'm so super happy right now you wouldn't believe it! Normally Ronnie loses frames and matches like this!

Glad ding play well though not win. He has plenty to do compared with the rocket. And surely he has time. Up! !

Well, of course you're right with that and I agree that Selby has the advantage in deciders. But your comment sounded like as if Ronnie isn't able to show bottle against Selby in tough matches. He has proven it two times at the biggest stage you can get and it brought him two big majors at the end.

And we shouldn't always make the mistake to say that the loser has failed instead of saying that the winner is just a warrior. IMO Selby is mentally (together with Higgins and Ebdon) the strongest player on the tour, stronger than Ronnie, so I can't really say that Ronnie has failed, it's more Selbys strength. Selby is a lion.

I agree with you Skull, when he faces Selby there always seems to be that mental barrier that stops him from winning. Last week that missed black off it's spot from Ronnie in the final just proved that once again.

Selby has comeback against Ronnie in lots of occasions:

2008 Welsh Open Final, 8-6 down
2010 Masters Final, 9-6 down
2010 Worlds, 9-5 down wins 13-11
2011 PTC4, 3-1 down
2013 ET7, 3-1 down

5 ocassions on which Selby has won from behind, so yeah Skull is right.

And today I'm doing the role of Jewel yesterday by recalling bad memories. <doh>

Although Ronnie has bottled some of those chances when Selby came back, but anyway...

:phew: I calmed down a bit now.

In yesterday's group final the overall standard was better but this fightback from Ronnie was just truly inspirational - some of the shots he potted to force the decider were just superb.

O'Sullivan is in a very good place mentally at the moment and this win will give him also a lot of confidence. Whatever happens now, Ronnie can go into the UK Champs pleased.

How do you think he would be if he won this tourney against Selby coming from behind? :-D In a way, that could be bad for him as he could think he had already done enough by beating his favourite player on tour. <laugh>

My predicts have been top notch so far, particularly I predicted Robbo would win 6-5 against Carter and more importantly Ronnie would beat Ding 6-5 :-D

Don't think I've ever been so accurate with my predictions even though I've won some contests.

Top by a decent margin. Ali ruined things for me. I was on fire until then. Stupid green :grrr:

So after seeing Andres listing of that Selby Comebacks, it's 5:3 for Selby in the tough/fighting matches. Well, I can live with that, it doesn't annoy me so much. Ronnie had three wins like that against Selby.

2007 UK Semi : Ronnie 9:8 Selby (after beeing 1:4 down, after beeing 5:7 down)
2009 Masters Final: Ronnie 10:8 Selby (after beeing 5:7 down)
2010 PTC 1 : Ronnie 4:3 Selby (after beeing 0:2 down)

However. Let's come back to the topic. The match today was one of the most enjoyable Ronnie O'Sullivan matches I've ever seen and his fighting spirit was great. If he keeps playing like that, he has a great chance for a great season.

Yes. He often does well in that tournament. He matured a lot this season, he's the full package now and he will win many more tournaments, that's a certainty.

I'd go with yesterday's match personally, but just edges it.

No you're right, on the whole yesterday's match was just a little bit better because it absolutely had everything, lots of tons, good safety, comebacks and tension.

Today's just fell short on the really big breaks, even though there were some.
