World Snooker Awards: 2018/19 winners
Player of the Year – Judd Trump
Fans’ Player of the Year – Ronnie O’Sullivan
Snooker Writers’ Player of the Year – Judd Trump
Performance of the Year – James Cahill
Rookie of the Year – Joe O’Connor
Magic Moment of the Year – Ronnie O’Sullivan

Agree with most of them, but there is no way O'Connor should have won rookie of the year over Xintong. Zhao is ranked #58 and he has only completed year one of his card!

Cahill is a joke as well. Not trying to discredit his win but one win over ROS at the Crucible is surely not more worth or a better performance than winning a ranking title (beating 7 opponents along the way) like Jimmy Robertson has done. Thepchaiya won the Shootout so thats not a big deal but Jimmy Robertsons ranker was a proper achievement.

Surely “performance” is refereing to a specific match?

Lol at that Cahill award. I would have gone for Judd in the masters final. Ronnie didn't play well in either of these matches but Judd played brilliantly while Cahill just did ok.

Well in the video they explictily said 'Jimmy Robertson for winning the European Masters' and 'Thepchaiya for winning the Shootout'. So it sounded like it was about the overall performance throughout a whole tournament.

But even if its only in terms of a single match surely it would be better to rather award a peak performance from somebody. Like Trump against ROS in the Masters or Ronnies performance against Robertson in the Players Championship final. Cahill didnt produce anything special in that match against Ronnie.

Why do people think Magic Moment of the Year – Ronnie O’Sullivan, 1000th century is more special than Judd winning his 1st WC? that is crazy

I suppose, magic Moment means something like a maximum break, a special pressure clearance, or in this case a 1000th Century.

A feat which only lasts a few minutes but creates a very special buzz.

Yeah, it's almost as shocking as Judd not being given the Ballon d'Or, Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for Best Actor IMO. It's an absolute travesty and a conspiracy against Judd Trump, something must be done about this immediately.

I didn't ask anything of the sort but winning a WC for the first time after being hyped for years to do so has to be more special than a 1000th century, it's just Ronnie's status as the people's champion and the most popular player that got him the vote lol

I agree the 1000th centry was crazy and the environment he did it being the last frame of a big ranking final but come on

Because it’s a moment. Judd winning the WC wasn’t a moment, it was a culmination of years of work.

The crowd reaction to Ronnie’s 1000th is basically the answer to your question.

Of course it was a moment that doesn't make any sense, that's like saying the 1000th century shouldn't be a moment it should be a culmination of 26 or 27 years of work or whatever the old man's been on the tour for.

Maybe it's due to the fact that he gained a two year tour card via the one year list as an amateur ???????. a great achievement, which you are overlooking

Probably felt they had to give him something or he wouldn't talk to press again. Don't know why Hearn tolerates this nonsense from some flash-in-the-pan nobody.

Ronnie79 wrote:Hearn is full of sh1t. he said there would be 20 ranking events next season. it is down to 15 on the provisional calendar. World Open, International, European and Indian gone and the PHC is now a 16 man invitational. so it has gone from 20 down to 15. there is no way they will add 5 rankers at this stage. hearn is a liar.

Absolutely no chance Yushan (World Open) will not be a ranking event tbf. After spending hundreds of millions in redevelopment and creating a 'snooker city' in an attempt to rival the Crucible, the thought of them not hosting a ranking event would be baffling.

It was only the print press he refused. Some newspapers in the gutter press had ran stories about Cahill's previous criminal activities (smuggling fags, drink driving). Cahill took exception to this and threw the proverbial toys.

A couple of papers brought up his prior convictions after he had beaten ROS. Pretty cheap but not unexpected. Don't blame Cahill for refusing to speak to them.
