A stupid small ranker like the ShootOut is used, yet prestigious events like the Shanghai Masters, CoC and the Masters are excluded. It's just not fair.
The Shoot Out is the only ranking event that doesn't count, actually.
The reason I have not included invitationals is because:
We have a fairly good idea who's going to play in them at the start of the season, and posters are just going to pick players that they know will be in those invitations, even if they fancy someone outside of this bracket to have a better season. No skill in that. Even though the likes of the Players Championship and Tour Championship also have restricted field, no one player has an advantage over any other at the start of the year because they're based on one-year rankings.
In the case of Shanghai, a good number of random Chinese players were going to be picked as wildcards, who would only have to win a game or two to score big points in Think Pink. So, some posters would have chosen Chinese players for this reason instead of non-Chinese players they fancy to have a better season.
Think Pink isn't perfect, but I think I've got a very fair system going.
