It's a teams competition, with 32 teams of 3 playing group matches and then a knockout phase, similar to the Snooker World Cup. Most of the best players who are currently in China are involved, including Mei Xiwen and Bai Langning, who have yet to return to the UK. There are many ex-professionals such as Zhang Anda, Zhang Jiankang, Li Yan, etc.
The stringest team is representing Lanzhou, comprising Mei Xiwen, Zhang Anda and the local prodigy Wu Yize. It's sponsored by a local business (Lanzhou is in Gansu Province, hometown of Wu Yize), which may explain why Zhang and Mei have been signed up.
Teams are from all over China. Even Tibet, Macau, Ningxia, etc. have a team. Yan Dong (Yan Bingtao's father) is the coach of the Shandong team.

(China is 8 hours ahead of the UK)
This is an encouraging event as previously it was announced that sporting events were not allowed until 2021. It's the first indication that maybe some professional events in China might be able to happen in the 2020-21 season.
