2007 Welsh Open - Newport Centre
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Welsh_Open_(snooker)

There was a huge surprise in the 07 Welsh Open, with Andrew Higginson reaching the final. He made a maximum in his quarter-final win over Ali Carter, and also beat Marco Fu. John Higgins and Stephen Maguire along the way.

The final was to be one step too far for the 29-year-old from Widnes though. Against Neil Robertson, he fell 5-1 behind before winning 7 of the next 8 frames to lead 8-6. He couldn't close out the match though and lost the final 3 frames.

This was Robertson's second title of the season.

2007 Shanghai Masters - Shanghai Grand Stage
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Shanghai_Masters

Dominic Dale was the surprise victor in the first event of the new season, the inaugural Shanghai Masters. He played Ryan Day in the final, the man from Pontycymer making his second appearance at that stage, having reached the European Masters final the year before.
Day took a 6-2 lead in the match, but seemingly then crumbled, with Dale taking the next 8 in a 10-6 win.

Recent World finalists John Higgins and Mark Selby met in the last 16. Selby took a slice of revenge from his final defeat by beating the Wizard 5-3.

Ronnie O'Sullivan did not play because of a bad back.

QFs:
Mark Selby (3) 5-0 Stuart Bingham (24)
Dominic Dale (37) 5-1 Dave Harold (26)

2007 Grand Prix - Aberdeen Exhibition Centre
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Grand_Prix_(snooker)

Time for the Grand Prix again, already! And once more we had two set of round robins to get us to the knockout, last 16 stage. A difference this year was that the group stage matches were best of 7 rather than best of 5.

After Robertson's win last year, we had another overseas winner this time around, with Marco Fu claiming his first ranking title. He beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final. Ronnie took a 5-3 lead, but Fu then won 6 of the next 7 to win 9-6. It was a high scoring match from both players, with 13 50+ breaks in total (Fu 8; Ronnie 5).

Liu Song had the best run of his professional career, reaching the knockout stage (no mean feat) and then beating Stephen Maguire to get to the quarter-finals. In one of Liu's group matches, Dave Harold created a record with 14 consecutive 'foul and a miss' strokes!
Liu is now a coach and a regular commentator on zhibo.tv

QFs:
Ronnie O'Sullivan (5) 5-3 Joe Swail (20)
Shaun Murphy (4) 5-3 Peter Ebdon (8)
Gerard Greene (40) 5-3 Joe Perry (30)

In terms of data-entry, I make it that we're roughly halfway towards the present day, which is in equal measures mind-boggling and daunting.

It's also immensely cool though because going through this process has been very enjoyable.

I brought this project to Snooker Island in October 2020 and predicted it would take a year, so we're on track!
There was of course a pre-Island period of a couple of years of trialling different methods, and then planning for this big one :-)

That's absolutely right, he's done very well 'recently'. This from his Wikipedia article:

He reached his first ranking semi-final at the 2007 Grand Prix. Greene came through Group B which included Ronnie O'Sullivan, Steve Davis, Dominic Dale and qualifiers Tom Ford and Mark Joyce. He beat Davis and Dale 4–0, Ford 4–3 and Joyce 4–2, his only defeat coming at the hands of Ronnie O'Sullivan, 4–2. He defeated qualifier Ricky Walden 5–0 in the last 16 with breaks of 101 and 91. In his quarter-final he faced Joe Perry, who he defeated 5–3 with breaks of 68, 57, 123 and rounding of the match with a 53. Eventual champion Marco Fu edged him out 6–5 in the semi-final. For a while before this tournament, he had no snooker club to practice in.[2]

Showing his best form for years, he also reached the Quarter-final of the 2007 Northern Ireland Trophy, beating Liang Wenbo (5–2) in the first round. Then he beat former World Champions Mark Williams (5–3) and Ken Doherty (5–1) on the way. His run ended in the hands of Mark Allen, who he lost to 5–3.

He was as high as 9th in these rankings following the 2003 British Open, but he has been slipping since then. He's now back up to 19th.

After making a maximum break in the decider against Selby in the semi-final, Ronnie O'Sullivan blew away Stephen Maguire in the final. He took the first 8 frames before winning 10-2.
He had already had monster wins of 9-1 v King and 9-2 v Cope.

The event was sponsored by Maplin, and so many people will have been disappointed not to see Kurt Maflin make the venue stages. He lost to Paul Davies in the last 80.
